Flats Fishing Frenzy: Red Snapper Glory in St. Petersburg

What a day we had out on the flats with SRS Adventures! Sumanth joined us for a Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip in St. Petersburg, Florida. June's a great time for flats fishing here, with the warmer waters bringing in plenty of fish. We kicked off early, meeting at 1:00 AM to make the most of the day. The weather was a bit iffy, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of storms, but that didn't stop us from having a blast.

We hit the water and got straight to it, mixing up our techniques to see what would work best. We tried some sight fishing, keeping our eyes peeled for any movement in the shallows. When that didn't pan out, we switched to drift fishing, letting the boat glide along while we cast our lines. We even threw in some flipping and pitching for good measure. The water conditions were great, which made spotting fish a lot easier.

The highlight of the day was when Sumanth hooked into a nice Red Snapper. That fish put up a real fight, but Sumanth handled it like a champ. When we finally got it in the boat, it measured up at 23 inches - a solid catch that had us all grinning. Even though we only landed the one big fish, we had plenty of action throughout the day with near misses and smaller catches keeping us on our toes.
