I took sumanth out for an early morning trip in Florida, KY this June. We kicked off at 1:00 am, getting a jump on the day before the sun rose. The weather was partly cloudy throughout, with the possibility of storms looming. These conditions can make for some interesting fishing, as the fish often become more active right before a storm rolls in. As a guide with SRS Adventures, I was excited to show sumanth why we're known for providing the best experience on the water. Florida, Kentucky offers productive largemouth bass fishing in the Green River, with fish often holding near submerged timber and rocky outcroppings. Crappie can be targeted around brush piles in 10-15 foot depths. Catfish anglers should focus on deep holes and creek mouths using cut bait. Smallmouth bass are present in cooler, faster-moving sections upstream. Jigs and soft plastics work well for bass, while live minnows are effective for crappie.
We focused our efforts on sight fishing, fly casting, and using popping bugs - techniques well-suited for the flats we were fishing. These methods are particularly effective for targeting Red Snapper in the area. Our persistence paid off when sumanth landed a nice Red Snapper measuring 23 inches. Red Snapper are well-known for their strength and fight, making them a prized catch in Florida, KY waters.
