Reel in Summer Excitement on St. Pete's Sizzling Flats!
Non-stop bites all day long! That's how I'd sum up our summer flats fishing adventure with SRS Adventures out of St. Petersburg. We kicked off in the early hours, meeting thenn at the dock for our Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip. June's a prime time for flats fishing in these parts, and the clear conditions we had throughout the day only sweetened the deal.
Once the stage was set, we wasted no time getting to our favorite spots. The flats were alive with activity, and we employed a mix of techniques to make the most of it. Sight fishing was the name of the game early on, with the clear water giving us a perfect view of what was swimming below. We also had success using popping corks and soft plastic jerkbaits, keeping things varied to see what would trigger the most strikes.
The highlight of our day came when thenn hooked into a solid Red Snapper. These beauties aren't always common in the flats, but when you find them, it's a real treat. This one put up a great fight, stripping line and making several runs before we finally got it to the boat. Measuring in at 23 inches, it was a respectable catch that had us all grinning. The action didn't stop there, though. We continued to work the flats, with the bite staying consistent throughout our time on the water.
