Flats Fishing Frenzy: St. Pete's Clear Water Adventure Awaits

I took Kumar out on a Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures in St. Petersburg, Florida this May. It was a great day for flats fishing - clear conditions and great water made for perfect visibility. May is a fantastic time for flats fishing around here, with lots of fish moving into the shallows to feed.

We headed out at 1:00 AM to get an early start and make the most of the day. I showed Kumar a variety of techniques we use on the flats - poling the boat quietly, sight casting to tailing fish, and working the edges of grass beds. The clear water let us spot fish easily, which is always exciting. We saw some nice reds and snook cruising the shallows, even if they weren't in a feeding mood.

Though we didn't manage to land any big prizes, we still had a great time out on the water, enjoying the scenery and good company. That's the thing about flats fishing - even when the fish aren't cooperating, you're still out there in a beautiful spot, watching wildlife and soaking in the peacefulness. Kumar seemed to really enjoy learning the techniques and getting a feel for reading the water.
