Embark on an Early Morning Quest for Elusive Flats Fish!
I had a great time out on the flats with t today, running a Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures in St. Petersburg, Florida. May is a fantastic month for flats fishing around here - the water's warming up and the fish are getting more active. We met up at 1:00 am, which is earlier than usual, but it gave us a chance to beat the heat and get out there before anyone else.
The weather was a bit iffy to start, but it cleared up nicely in the afternoon. We had to keep an eye on some possible strong storms, but they stayed away and we ended up with great conditions. The water was in great shape too, nice and clear which is perfect for sight fishing on the flats. We tried a variety of techniques throughout the day, mixing things up to see what would work best.
Though we didn't manage to land any big prize, we still had a great time out on the water, enjoying the scenery and good company. That's the thing about fishing - sometimes it's just about being out there, soaking in the day and enjoying the chase. We saw plenty of activity and had a few close calls, which kept things exciting. T was a trooper, sticking with it and staying positive even when the fish weren't cooperating.
