We had a great day out on the water with Rajshree in St. Petersburg, Florida, running a Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures. May is a fantastic time for flats fishing here, with the warm waters bringing in plenty of fish. We met up at 1:00 am, which was early, but it meant we had the whole day ahead of us. The weather was partly cloudy, perfect for avoiding the harsh sun, and the water conditions were great.
Once we got out on the flats, we tried a variety of techniques to see what would work best. It's always fun to mix things up and see what the fish are in the mood for. We didn't have to wait long before we got into some action. The highlight of the day was when Rajshree hooked into a nice Red Snapper. Those fish put up a good fight, especially in the shallow water of the flats. It was exciting to see the fish make runs and try to shake the hook, but Rajshree did a great job and managed to land it.
Throughout the day, we moved around a bit, trying different spots on the flats. The partly cloudy skies actually worked in our favor, making it easier to spot fish without the glare on the water. We had a steady bite going, with a few more catches and some near misses that kept things interesting. It's days like this that remind me why I love guiding on these waters – there's always something happening, and you never know what you might catch next.
