I had a great day out on the flats with Amir today, running a Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures in St. Petersburg, Florida. May is a fantastic time for flats fishing here, with warmer waters bringing in more baitfish and predators. We met up at 1:00 AM, which gave us plenty of time to get set up and hit the water early. The weather was on our side with clear conditions throughout the day, and the water looked great for fishing.
We tried a variety of techniques to entice the fish. I showed Amir how to work different lures and baits, adjusting our approach as we moved across the flats. The clear water gave us excellent visibility, perfect for sight fishing. We spotted some nice fish cruising the shallows, which got our hearts racing. Even though we didn't manage to land any big prize, we still had a great time out on the water, enjoying the scenery and good company.
Despite not catching any fish, the day was far from a disappointment. We saw plenty of activity and had some close calls with a few nice-sized fish following our lures. It's days like these that remind you fishing is about more than just the catch. We spent time improving techniques, reading the water, and just enjoying being out on the flats. The calm conditions made for a smooth ride, and we covered a good amount of water, giving Amir a real feel for flats fishing in St. Petersburg.
